Piazza Garibaldi

Address Piazza Garibaldi 00019 Tivoli RM

Piazza Garibaldi is the heart of the historical centre of Tivoli. It is a large public area full of green, coloured flowerbeds and three central fountains. It is dedicated to Giuseppe Garibaldi, the so-called Hero of Two Worlds, who came here fleeing from enemies after the fall of the Roman Republic.

From this square you have a beautiful view of the city and of the countryside that surrounds the city of Tivoli. A short walk away from Piazza Garibaldi are some of the historical and religious symbols of Tivoli, such as the Rocca Pia, with the underlying Bleso Amphitheatre, and the Church of Saint Mary Major. Near the square is also the National College Duke Amedeo of Savoy, where the Italian bourgeoisie used to send their children to school. It now contains the elementary school and middle school. Special mention should be made of the Arch of the Founding Fathers  a monumental sculpture created in 2009 by Arnaldo Pomodoro.
