Post office near the Pia Fortress and theBleso amphitheater, the Stables are called “Lo Stallone” by Tiburtinians, as they were built by Cardinal Alessandro d’Este in 1621 to house horses (it could hold more than 100).
In fact, the building is quite close to the Este Villa, where the cardinal, appointed governor of Tivoli by Pope Paul III, resided.
The large building, located outside the city walls, is connected with the casemate where the Fortress guardhouse was housed, now converted into a restaurant.
Currently, the building, which has been completely restored, houses the offices of the City’s Public Works Department on the second floor, while the first floor is used as a Multimedia Center, intended to host conferences, exhibitions, and concerts.
It consists of a central passageway onto which six exhibition rooms open.
The corridor is enclosed by a convention hall that can seat more than 100 people.
