Domenico Tani Square is located in the medieval historic center of the city of Tivoli, at the end of Via San Valerio and the beginning of Via del Colle.
It is a very old square, located in the heart of the city, near the Forum on whose remains was built the Cathedral of St. Lawrence.
During the period of the Forum’s renovation (2nd-1st centuries B.C.), the square was expanded by resorting to a monumental setting (especially for those viewing Tivoli from below) of a double, substructive cryptoporticus under the western side (with blind arches made of opus caecta and travertine), where people could stroll and discuss, even the political affairs of the Forum, in rainy or excessively hot weather.
