The Complex cd. of the Capuchins, consisting of the convent and the Church, originally dedicated to “S. Croce ai Cappuccini,” today to “Madonna della Fiducia,” is located at the end of Mannelli Avenue, in an elevated position with respect to the City, from which it remained outside the walls that circled around Rocca Pia.
They were built in the early 1600s on the initiative of the Bishop of Veroli, the Tiburtine Eugenio Fucci, and inaugurated in 1611 by Card. De Giojosa, Bishop of Ostia and protector of the Capuchins.
The church, serving as a parish, towers at the top of the slope from which the complex is accessed with a very simple facade in which a beautiful portal stands out, over which a rectangular window opens.
Inside are preserved a number of canvases and oil paintings, attributable to the 7th century, of very high historical-artistic value: in one we admire the “Crucifixion of the Saints” in which appear, among several figures, St. John, St. Sinforosa with her seven children and Bishop Fucci, who had donated the land on which the Church and the Capuchin monastery arose.
Depicted at the foot of the cross are the old Porta Santa Croce, a tower of the Rocca Pia with the arches of the Rivellese Aqueduct, the Church of St. Francis and the Capuchin Convent with the Church.
Other canvases are attributed by Crocchiante to Friar Vitale Cappuccino, active in the seventh century.
Numerous inscriptions are related to both the consecration of the church (first consecration in 1611 and second consecration in 1837) and the marble tombstones.
